Literacy and Numeracy
As you would expect the morning sessions are based around effective teaching of the key skills in literacy and numeracy so that children have the essential foundations for future learning in all subject areas.
Science
The school has state of the art science laboratory. Junior children enjoy a rich science curriculum supported by the secondary science teacher and the secondary science facilities. Science lessons also make maximum use of our external environment for a rich and practical approach to investigative science.
Modern Foreign Languages
French and Spanish are taught as lively, fun activities to all children from Reception upwards. Children receive three hours of specialist language tuition each week from Reception Class onwards. The specialist language teachers support the primary class teachers so that language is a well taught, fun curriculum area.
Our aim in the primary phase is that children are familiar with conversational foreign languages and uninhibited taking both these languages in Senior School.
Information and Communication Technology
The ICT facilities were extended in May 2008 to provide wireless network access from all areas within school. Primary classes have access to interactive whiteboard technology and the ICT network in all classes. The ICT suite is used as a resource area by all children from reception class upwards
Creativity and Communication
This is encouraged and promoted in all age groups. Art and creative work is a strong feature of the primary teaching and great use is made of our stunning location. Performance and participation is also a key part of the school day. Music, drama, sport, modern foreign languages and art are strengths within the school.
Music, choir, school productions, and music tuition are part of all the childrens weekly experience at school. Music is taught by primary class teachers but co-ordinated by our music specialists who deliver much of the instrumental and brass tuition and lead the choir and school ensemble. Keyboards, percussion and guitar are routinely used by children progressing through juniors and are a compulsary element of the secondary curriculum.
P E and Sport
Primary children receive 4 hours of PE per week including swimming, athletics, team games, fencing, dance and outdoor pursuit activities. Residential Camps take place in the summer term for Year 4 upwards and skiing in February.
